GOD PROMISES HIS PRESENCE

You Can Live Knowing You are Never Truly Alone

Have you ever been surrounded by people and still felt completely alone? You’re not imagining it — and you’re not the only one. That quiet ache is one of the most common things we carry, and it’s exactly what God addressed when He promised, not once but repeatedly across Scripture: never will I leave you, never will I forsake you. Today we’re digging into what that promise actually means, why it doesn’t depend on how we feel, and what it looks like to start living like it’s really true.

Okay, let’s start here. The promise is this: God will never leave us. That’s it. Not “He’ll be there when we have it together” or “He’ll show up if we pray enough.” Never. Hebrews 13:5 records two nevers in a row — “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Two of them because one apparently wasn’t going to be enough for us to actually believe it.

And this truth matters so much because many of us are walking around carrying this low-level ache of feeling like we’re on our own. We can be surrounded by people — family in the next room, a full calendar, a group chat that never stops — and still feel like nobody really sees us. Like we’re carrying the hard stuff alone, and that feeling is exhausting. Not only that, but, it is a lie. God gave us this promise because He knew we’d feel that way, and He wanted to settle it once and for all.

Now, here’s the context that makes this truth so good. God first said this to Israel in Deuteronomy 31:6, right before they walked into the most uncertain season of their lives. Moses — the only leader they’d ever known — was about to be gone. The land ahead was completely unknown and they were scared. But God didn’t hand them a battle plan; He said: I am going with you. Jesus also says it one final time at the very end of His ministry in Matthew 28:20: “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Always – that word covers a lot.

Now here’s the part we really need to sit with. His presence is covenantal, not emotional, which means it doesn’t depend on how we feel. It doesn’t get weaker when we’re in a hard season or stronger when we’re spiritually on fire. It just… is. Because He said so. And just to clarify — loneliness and aloneness are not the same thing. Loneliness is real and it hurts, but being truly alone, as in without God? That’s not an option for us anymore because God is always with us. He made sure of it.

So what does living from this actually look like? Well, it starts small – a pause before the day takes over; a whispered “I know You’re here” before the hard conversation; a moment where instead of spiraling, we just… acknowledge Him. We don’t have to feel His presence to practice living like it’s real because faith grows when we act like He’s with us, not the other way around. We don’t wait until we feel it, we step forward, and the feeling follows.

So this week, let’s try a daily Presence Pause. Once a day — morning is great, or whenever things feel heavy — stop for 60 seconds. Take a slow breath. And say out loud or in your heart: “God, I know You are here. Help me live like I believe that.”

No long prayer, no perfect words, just a simple, honest acknowledgment that He’s already in the room. Do it every day this week and see what starts to shift. We don’t have to feel less alone before we practice this. We practice it, and then we feel less alone. Let’s remember that He is here, He has always been here, and He is not going anywhere.

Loved loved loved this. I especially love how you emphasized that ‘it just is’ . There’s no prerequisite for God’s presence, he’s always with us. That’s what I’m going to try to remember every time I feel as though I have to make this perfect atmosphere for him to come. I can just rest in the fact that I know he’s already there

Wow, I love that truth Akilia, that we don't have to do anything to welcome His presence because He is always with us. Thank you for sharing 😊
