Who is Elohim? Let’s find out. This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Reset – where we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.
We’re starting a brand new series titled “THE NAMES OF GOD: Discovering Who He Is.” Join me on this exciting 12 week journey to discover who God is and how He is available to us in different ways.
📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset
Let’s start with the word itself: Elohim. It’s the very first name of God we encounter in the Bible – “In the beginning, God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). The name means “Mighty Creator” or “Strong One,” showing God’s unmatched power and authority over all things.
Now here’s something interesting – Elohim is actually a plural word in Hebrew, but it doesn’t mean “many gods.” Instead it points to the fullness of who God is; powerful, complete, and perfectly united within Himself. It’s a hint, even from the start, of God’s triune nature of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working together in creation.
Throughout the Old Testament, this name appears over 2,500 times. That’s a lot of reminders that God is not just a creator, He is the Creator. When everything was dark and formless, Elohim spoke light and order into existence.
Now, let’s bring that into our lives today. Think about those areas that feel a little chaotic – maybe your week ahead, your to-do list, or even your thoughts. Remember that we don’t need to hide our chaos from God, we can invite Him into it because Elohim specializes in taking what feels empty or disorganized and forming it into something beautiful.
When we give our chaos to Elohim, we open the door for Him to create something new, a new rhythm, new peace, maybe even a new direction.
Let’s all remember that the same God who shaped galaxies from nothing can bring clarity and purpose to our week; so let’s trust Him with that today.
📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit
“For this is what the Lord says – he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited – he says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’” – Isaiah 45:18 (NIV)
God doesn’t create for chaos, He creates for purpose. Even when life feels empty or uncertain, He’s forming something good, something meant to be filled with life.
💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life
“Elohim is bringing order to my chaos. I can rest knowing the Mighty Creator is still creating in me.”
Say this whenever things start to feel scattered. Let it center your thoughts and remind you that Elohim is both powerful and present, working in every detail of your life.
❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset
I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
“Where in your life do you need to stop striving and let Elohim bring order?”
Take a moment to journal or pray about this. As we step into this week, let’s remember that Elohim doesn’t wait for everything to be perfect before He begins His work, He starts right in the middle of the mess. So whatever feels uncertain, undone, or overwhelming right now, that’s exactly where His creativity shines the brightest.
Let’s live our lives with the knowledge that Elohim, the Mighty Creator, is more than capable of shaping something beautiful out of our chaos.
I pray you have a wonderful week and I’ll see you next Monday as we continue our series with the name Yahweh. See you then!
