ALPHA AND OMEGA: THE BEGINNING AND THE END

The One Who Started It All and Will Finish What He Began

God is the Alpha and Omega: The Beginning and the End. Let’s delve deeper into the meaning of this name as we conclude our series, “THE NAMES OF GOD: Discovering Who He Is.”

This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Resetwhere we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.

📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset

The name Alpha and Omega comes from the very first and very last letters of the Greek alphabet and literally means the beginning and the end. It’s synonymous to us saying “from A to Z,” meaning everything, the whole story and that nothing is left out. This name reminds us that God stands outside of time – before the first moment ever happened and beyond the final chapter we can’t yet see.

This name appears in the book of Revelation, written to early Christians who were tired, pressured, and unsure of what the future held. Many were facing persecution, loss, and uncertainty, and the world around them felt unstable. So when God declared Himself as Alpha and Omega to the apostle John and told him to write it down and send it to seven churches who were struggling, He was reassuring and reminding them: I was here before all of this started, and I’ll still be here when it’s finished.

Now if God is the beginning and the end, that means He didn’t just start the world – He started our story too. He was present at the very beginning of who we are, and He’s not stepping away halfway through because things got messy, slow, or unclear. He’s still here, steady and involved, even when we’re stuck in the middle chapters wondering how things will turn out.

And let’s be honest, the middle is often where we struggle most. It’s where things feel unresolved, where prayers feel unanswered or where progress feels slower than we expected. But this name reminds us that the same God who had intention when He started is still faithful as He finishes – even if the timeline looks different than we imagined.

So as we step into this week, maybe we don’t need to figure out the ending just yet. Maybe we’re being invited to trust the God who already knows it – to trust our Alpha and Omega. Because He’s the one who started our story with intention and He will finish it with care.

📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”Philippians 1:6 NIV

This verse reminds us that God doesn’t abandon what He starts. Even when we feel unfinished or unsure, His work in us is still active and still moving forward.

💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life

“I trust Alpha and Omega, the God who began my story and will faithfully bring it to completion.”

Repeat this throughout the day, especially when you feel behind, rushed, or tempted to worry about how things will turn out. Let it remind us that the beginning, the middle, and the ending are all held by Him.

❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset

I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below. Your perspective might just encourage someone else on their journey.

“How does knowing God is the Alpha and Omega change the way you see beginnings, middles, and endings in your life’s story?”

As we carry this question with us through the week, let it guide our perspective and remind us: our story isn’t left to chance. The God who is the Alpha and Omega is at work in every beginning, middle, and ending. Take comfort in knowing that no chapter is wasted and every part is held by His faithful hands.

Next week will be a little different as we recap all 12 names of God in this series. Until then, I pray you have a blessed week and if you missed our last post on El RoiThe God Who Sees Me, you can catch it here.

Let’s stay rooted in Christ my friend,
