Who is Yahweh (YHWH)? Let’s find out. This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Reset – where we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.
Let’s continue our series, “THE NAMES OF GOD: Discovering Who He Is.”
📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset
Let’s start with the meaning: Yahweh (YHWH) comes from God’s own words to Moses in Exodus 3:14 – “I AM WHO I AM.” In Hebrew, it’s “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh.” But it’s not just a name, it’s a declaration of existence that means God simply is. He doesn’t become, He doesn’t evolve, He doesn’t depend on anything – He just is.
Here’s a fun fact: the name Yahweh was considered so holy by the Israelites that they wouldn’t even say it aloud. Instead, they’d substitute it with Adonai, meaning “Lord.” The four Hebrew letters – YHWH – are known as the Tetragrammaton, and even writing them was done with deep reverence. That’s how sacred this name was and still is.
But what really gets me about this name is how personal it is. When God told Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” He wasn’t being distant or philosophical. He was saying, “I will be with you. I am everything you need, right here, right now.” It’s like God was reassuring Moses, and us, that we never have to face anything without His presence as He is eternal and self-existing.
And if we think about it, this name speaks right into the ache of our modern lives. We live in a world that changes every second – our jobs, relationships, emotions, even our sense of identity. Some days, we wake up feeling grounded, and other days, we’re wondering if we’re doing enough, being enough, or becoming enough.
But Yahweh cuts through all that noise. He doesn’t shift when life does. He doesn’t depend on our moods, mistakes, or milestones, but instead, He remains constant, unchanging, faithful, and near.
So when we feel lost or uncertain, that’s the truth we can anchor to.
- When everything feels unpredictable – Yahweh is constant.
- When people disappoint us – Yahweh is faithful.
- When we don’t know what’s next – Yahweh already does.
This week, let us let this sink in a little deeper as we stop striving to hold everything together and instead lean on the One who never changes. Because when we know Yahweh – not just as a name but as a presence – we realize we’re not building our lives on shifting sand. We’re standing on the unmovable, eternal ground of His being.
Remember: the same “I AM” who met Moses in the wilderness is right here, whispering, “I’m still here. I’ve always been here. I’ll always be here.”
📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8 NIV
This verse reminds us that Yahweh is not limited by time. The same God who parted the Red Sea, who showed up for Abraham and Sarah, is the same God walking beside us today and He’s already in our tomorrow.
💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life
“I rest in the stability of Yahweh. When everything changes, He remains the same – my constant, my anchor, my peace.”
Repeat this whenever you feel things shifting or spinning out of control this week. Let it ground you in the truth that God never wavers because He is who He says He is.
❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset
I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
“What areas of my life need the stability of God’s unchanging presence right now?”
Take a few moments today to pause, breathe, and invite Yahweh into that space. Maybe journal about it or talk to Him honestly – no fancy words needed. Just let His presence meet you right where you are.
Let’s head into this week anchored in the truth that we don’t walk into uncertainty alone – Yahweh walks right beside us, the same God who was, who is, and who always will be.
I pray you have a wonderful week and I’ll see you next Monday as we continue our series with the name El Shadai. See you then!
