Let’s meet Jehovah Shalom as we continue our series, “THE NAMES OF GOD: Discovering Who He Is.”

This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Resetwhere we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.

📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset

Jehovah Shalom translates to “The Lord is my peace.” It’s such a beautiful name for God, but it actually comes from a moment in Scripture that wasn’t peaceful at all. In Judges 6, there’s this man named Gideon who was living during a time when his whole community felt overwhelmed, unsafe, and completely defeated. Food was scarce, enemies were attacking, and everyone was just trying to survive. Gideon himself was hiding just to do everyday tasks – that’s how rough things were.

Right in the middle of that fear and pressure, God shows up and speaks peace over Gideon. Not after the danger passed, not once everything calmed down, but right in the middle of it all. And Gideon, still unsure and still afraid, builds an altar and names it Jehovah Shalom, as if to say, “Even though nothing around me has changed yet… I’ve met the One who is peace.”

The word shalom is so much deeper than the word “peace” we use today. It doesn’t just mean calm feelings or a quiet moment, it means wholeness… completeness… everything in its rightful place. So when God calls Himself Shalom, He’s not saying, “I’ll help you feel better eventually,” he’s saying, “I am the wholeness your heart is craving.”

So what does this mean for us on a real-life Monday when our to-do list is long, the house is loud, or our emotions feel out of order? Maybe it means we stop waiting for life to soften before we let ourselves breathe. Maybe it means we invite God into the chaos as it is, instead of trying to fix everything first.

And the beautiful outcome is that, although our life may not suddenly feel perfect, our hearts will settle, our shoulders unclench a bit and we walk through the week remembering peace isn’t something we chase – it’s Someone who already came to meet us right where we are.

📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” – Isaiah 26:3 NIV

I love this verse because it reminds us that peace of Jehovah Shalom doesn’t come from everything around us settling down – it comes from where we place our focus. When our minds drift toward God instead of our worries, He steadies us in a way the world can’t copy.

💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life

“I choose to rest in God’s peace, even when life feels unsettled.”

Say this whenever your thoughts start speeding up or you feel pulled in too many directions. Let it gently redirect your heart back toward the One who restores calm from the inside out.

❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset

I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

“What’s one thing from today’s lesson about God’s peace that makes you feel calm or hopeful?”

Take a moment to sit with that thought, jot it down, or just notice how it lands in your heart. Sometimes even one small insight can carry us through the week with more peace.

And as we head into this new week, let’s walk with the quiet confidence of people who aren’t trying to manufacture peace – we’re simply receiving it from the One who already promised to be peace for us.

Next week, we’ll meet Emmanuel – God With Us, and we’ll discover what it means when God dwells with us.

And if you missed our last post on the name Jehovah Nissi: The Lord is My Banner, you can catch it here.

Let’s stay rooted in Christ my friend,
