They say “Patience is a virtue” so let’s find out how to practice this in our ever so busy culture. This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Reset – where we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.
We’re continuing our series “CHRISTLIKE: Living Set Apart in Modern Times.” If you missed last week’s post on how to practice holiness in a culture of compromise, you can catch it here.
📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset: Patience in an Instant-Gratification Society
Let me ask you: When was the last time you got frustrated waiting – for an email reply, a package delivery, or even your coffee order? If you’re anything like me, it probably wasn’t that long ago. See, we live in a world where two-day shipping feels slow and information is at our fingertips in seconds; we’ve been trained to expect everything now.
The problem with this is that when we’re conditioned for speed, we start to lose our ability to wait well. We get easily frustrated when life doesn’t move at the pace we want, and that spills over into our relationships, our goals, and even our faith. Instead of trusting God’s timing, we want shortcuts. Instead of seeing waiting as space to grow, we see it as wasted time. And the more we chase instant results, the harder it becomes to cultivate the deeper character traits like patience, endurance, and trust – the traits that God actually wants to build in us.
Think of Abraham and Sarah – they waited years for the child God promised. And yes, they stumbled when they tried to take matters into their own hands, but ultimately, God proved faithful in His timing. Their story reminds us that waiting isn’t punishment, it’s preparation.
So what does “waiting well” look like in our everyday lives? Here are a few ideas:
- Make the little waits meaningful. Next time you’re stuck in traffic or standing in line, instead of scrolling your phone, take a deep breath and say a quiet prayer. Even small moments like these can become chances to connect with God.
- Take a mindful pause. When you feel the urge to react quickly, whether it’s an impulse purchase, a quick text reply, or reacting in the moment, pause and breathe. Use that tiny pause to let patience grow and give God space to guide your next move.
- Trust God with the big waits. Whether you’re waiting for healing, guidance, or a big answer to prayer, remind yourself that God’s timing isn’t late – it’s perfect. Lean in and let Him do His work while you wait.
So let’s shift our mindset from “waiting is wasted” to “waiting is growing.” Every pause, every little delay, is an opportunity to lean into God, trust His timing, and strengthen our faith. We’re not falling behind – we’re right where we need to be, exactly on time with Him. Let’s embrace this week with patience in our hearts and hope in our steps.
📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14
This verse reminds us that waiting isn’t passive – it’s an active posture of hope and courage. God’s timing is perfect, and each pause in life is an opportunity to grow stronger, deepen our trust, and let Him shape our hearts.
💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life
“I trust God’s timing and embrace each pause as a chance to grow. Patience is my pathway to peace and strength.”
Repeat this whenever impatience creeps in, whether it’s in traffic, in long lines, or during seasons of unanswered prayers. Let it remind you that God is at work, even when you can’t see it.
❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset
I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
“Where in my life right now do I feel the urge to rush, and how can I let God use the waiting to grow me instead?”
Take a few quiet moments today to journal, pray, or simply sit with this question. Remember, waiting is never easy, but with God, it’s never wasted. Each pause is an invitation to trust Him more deeply and let patience shape us into Christ’s likeness.
Next week, we’ll explore practicing Forgiveness in a Culture That Glorifies Grudges. Can’t wait to journey through it with you!
