Sometimes it can feel hard to be holy in this society, right? This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Resetwhere we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.

We’re continuing our series “CHRISTLIKE: Living Set Apart in Modern Times.” If you missed last week’s post on how to practice obedience in a “Do-What-Feels-Good” world, you can catch it here.

📑 1 Lesson: Holiness in a Culture of Compromise

Have you noticed how easy it is to get pulled along with what’s “normal” these days? 🖐️

From TV shows to social media to casual chats with friends, the world sneaks in ideas and behaviors that don’t quite line up with God’s heart. And honestly? It’s subtle, so we don’t always even realize it’s shaping our thoughts and choices.

Here’s the thing too, little compromises add up – a joke here, a show there, or even a careless word can slowly shift the way we think, feel, and act. It’s not about being perfect – it’s about noticing where we might be drifting and gently steering back toward what really matters.

Take Daniel for example. He was a young man taken to Babylon, a completely foreign culture that didn’t honor God. Everyone around him followed practices that went against his beliefs. But Daniel made intentional choices: he refused food that would defile him, prayed faithfully even when it was risky, and stayed true to his beliefs in every decision (Daniel 1:8). Because of his consistency and courage, he experienced God’s favor, wisdom, and influence in ways he couldn’t have imagined. Daniel’s story reminds us that standing firm, even in small ways, creates a life that reflects God’s light and power.

So how do we follow Daniel’s example in our modern lives? A few simple ways:

  1. Be intentional with what we consume. Pause before we scroll, watch, or listen and ask, “Does this lift me up or weigh me down?”

  2. Speak with power. Our words have influence so let’s use them to encourage, inspire, and reflect God’s love.

  3. See purity as worship. Choosing what honors God isn’t about restriction, it’s about letting our lives point to Him.

Remember, God calls us not to conform to the world’s patterns but to be transformed by renewing our minds. Every choice we make to pause, reflect, and act in line with God’s heart is a step toward transformation; and each small decision matters. Every time we choose God’s way over the world’s compromise, our hearts grow stronger, our faith becomes more resilient, and our lives become a light for others to follow.

We don’t have to have it all figured out, and we don’t have to be perfect. The small, consistent steps we take in honoring God matter more than we realize. We can live intentionally, shining His light and experience the freedom and joy that comes from aligning our minds and hearts with Him.

📖 1 Scripture

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2 NIV

This verse reminds us that transformation starts in our minds. When we focus on God’s ways rather than the world’s patterns, our hearts, words, and actions begin to reflect Him.

💬 1 Affirmation

“I choose God’s way over the world’s distractions. My heart and mind are renewed daily.”

Say this to yourself whenever you feel pulled by social media, gossip, or anything that doesn’t align with God’s heart. Let it remind you to pause, refocus, and choose His way in that moment.

❓ 1 Question

I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

“What’s one area this week where I can actively choose God’s way over the world’s compromise?”

Take a few minutes to journal, pray, or just think it through. Maybe it’s a show you watch, a conversation you engage in, or a thought you dwell on. Each time you choose God’s way, you’re renewing your mind, strengthening your faith, and shining His light for others to see.

The world might blur the lines, but God’s call is clear. Step forward this week with intentionality, courage, and confidence. You are equipped, you are guided, and you can shine His light even in the midst of compromise.

Next week, we’ll chat about Patience in an Instant-Gratification Society. Can’t wait to walk through it with you!
