GOD PROMISES FULFILLMENT IN CHRIST

You Can Anchor Your Life In Something That Does Not Shift

Have you ever ordered something online, waited days for it to arrive, and finally felt that relief when the package showed up? That feeling of “it’s finally here, I don’t have to wait or look for it anymore” — that’s what fulfillment means. It means a promise was made, and now it is fully kept and finished.

Now, when the Bible says God’s promises are fulfilled in Jesus, it means Jesus is the package that arrived. That’s a package I’m pretty excited to receive 🥰.

A long time ago, God made a deep agreement, a covenant, with His people. He promised He would fix our broken world, bring us close to Him, and give us a life that feels totally safe and whole. And for hundreds of years, people tried to get those things by working hard, following long lists of rules, and trying to fix themselves up. I’m sure this was exhausting, and it never really worked.

But when Jesus came, He changed the whole game. He didn’t come to give us a better self-improvement plan or a new list of chores. He came to be the completion of everything God promised. He is God’s big, final “Yes.” And because we are joined to Jesus, we don’t have to work to earn God’s promises anymore. Now, that’s some good news!

We just get to rest in the fact that Jesus already went out and got them for us.

So, what exactly did God promise that is now completely finished and ours in Jesus?

  • He promised to wipe away our mistakes (The Forgiveness Promise). God promised a day would come where He would remember our wrongs no more. In Jesus, our past is totally washed clean. We don’t have to carry heavy guilt, shame, or the fear that we aren’t good enough.
  • He promised we would never be alone (The Family Promise). God promised to live with us and be our God. Because of Jesus, we are officially part of the family. We aren’t outsiders begging to get into the house; we are already sitting at the table.
  • He promised us rest from trying so hard (The Freedom Promise). God promised a life of peace, not constant stress. The pressure is completely off (if we let it). We don’t have to perform to get God to love us. We are already loved, right where we are.

This matters so much because the kind of fulfillment we often chase in the world is not constant. One day we think we’ve found happiness because everything goes right, and the next day it’s completely gone because something changed. You see, worldly fulfillment is always based on our performance, our changing emotions, or our circumstances — which means it can slip right through our fingers at any moment. But the fulfillment we have in Jesus is completely unmovable because He is unmovable and unshakable.

The Bible tells us exactly why Jesus cannot be moved. First, Jesus is actually God in human form — John 1:14 tells us He is God’s word made flesh and because He is God, He cannot lie, and He never changes His mind. Second, He went to the cross, took all our brokenness, and then beat death by rising from the grave. If even death couldn’t shake Him or hold Him down, absolutely nothing in our lives can shake Him either. Because He is the ultimate victor, the fulfillment He secured for us is locked in place forever. It doesn’t rely on a world that is always shifting; it relies on His historic, unmovable victory.

So, what does this actually mean for our everyday lives today? It means we can stop exhausting ourselves by chasing after worldly fulfillment. We can stop trying to find our worth in how much we get done, how much money we make, or whether everyone likes us. Those things are shaky, and they always shift.

Instead, we get to live from a place of already being fulfilled. When we wake up on a Monday morning feeling the pressure to prove ourselves, we can pause and remember that everything we are looking for has already arrived in Jesus. We don’t have to look for peace or safety anywhere else because we are already fulfilled in Christ.

So, this week, let’s practice the “Open Hand Pause.”

Whenever you feel that sudden wave of pressure to find happiness, to hustle, stress over your to-do list, or chase after worldly approval, stop for 10 seconds.

Drop your hands to your sides, open your palms facing up, take a deep breath, and say: “I can stop chasing because I am already fulfilled in Jesus.”

Opening your hands is a quick, physical way to stop the scramble and remind your heart that you can rest in His unmovable peace.
