Who is El Shaddai? Let’s find out. This post comes from our weekly newsletter – Monday Morning Resetwhere we Get Rooted in Christ through our Core 4 – 1 Lesson, 1 Scripture, 1 Affirmation & 1 Question.

Let’s continue our series, “THE NAMES OF GOD: Discovering Who He Is.”

📑 1 Lesson to Shape Our Mindset

El Shaddai first appears in Genesis 17:1, when God tells Abram, “I am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless.” In Hebrew, “El” means “God,” and “Shaddai” carries the idea of power, sufficiency, and nurture. Put together, it means “The All-Powerful, All-Sufficient God.” In this moment Abraham was facing the impossible, yet God introduces Himself as the One who makes the impossible possible.

Here’s something interesting, Shaddai is believed to come from a root meaning “mountain” or even “breast,” symbolizing both strength and nourishment. So El Shaddai isn’t just the God of power – He’s also the God of provision and tenderness. Isn’t that so beautiful that the same God who can move mountains is also the One who sustains us gently when we’re worn out.

Let’s be real – how often do we say, “I’ve got this,” when really, we don’t? We push through on our own strength, carry burdens we were never meant to, and end up running on empty. But El Shaddai invites us to rest in His sufficiency. He’s saying, “You don’t have to be enough because I already am.”

And if we’re honest, that’s something we all need as we live in a world that constantly tells us to be self-made, self-motivated, and self-sufficient. We’re told to push harder, do more, and never slow down. But the truth is, we were never meant to be the source of our own strength.

El Shaddai reminds us that God doesn’t need our strength; He offers us His. He is enough when we’re not. He provides when we can’t. He sustains us when we’re tired, unsure, or stretched too thin.

So this week, maybe we can practice letting go just a little more. When we feel the pressure to hold everything together, let’s pause and say, “Lord, You are El Shaddai – the All-Sufficient One. I trust You to sustain me.” Because the truth is, we were never meant to live self-sufficient lives. We were created to live God-sufficient ones.

📖 1 Scripture to Ground Our Spirit

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 NIV

This verse reminds us that God’s provision doesn’t run out – it runs over. El Shaddai isn’t just enough; He’s more than enough. So, when we stop striving to fill every gap on our own and trust in His sufficiency, we find peace in knowing He’s already provided what we need, sometimes even before we realize we need it.

💬 1 Affirmation to Speak Life

“I don’t have to be enough because El Shaddai already is. His strength carries me, His provision sustains me, and His power works within me.”

Repeat this whenever you feel the pressure to do it all on your own. Let it remind you that God’s sufficiency fills every gap your strength can’t cover.

❓1 Question to Reflect & Reset

I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

“Where do I need to lean on God’s power instead of my own?”

Take a quiet moment to think about that this week. Maybe it’s in your work, your parenting, your finances, or your peace of mind. Whatever it is, hand it over to El Shaddai, the One who is strong enough to hold you and gentle enough to sustain you.

As we step into this new week, let’s remember that our strength will always run out, but His never will. El Shaddai is more than enough for today, for tomorrow, and for every moment in between.

I pray you have a wonderful week and I’ll see you next Monday as we continue our series with the name Adonai. See you then!
