YOU ARE REDEEMED AND MADE NEW

Embracing a New Beginning and Letting God Restore Your Story

Have you ever looked back on a season of your life and quietly thought, I wish I could redo that? Maybe it was a decision, a mistake, or just a time when you felt lost – and even though life has moved forward, part of you still feels stuck there. That quiet weight can follow us, making us wonder if some chapters of our story are forever marked. But what if nothing in your story is beyond restoration because you are redeemed and made new

I want to first define the word redeemed because it can sound big and spiritual, but it’s actually very personal. When we talk about being redeemed, we’re really talking about getting a fresh start. It means something that looked lost or beyond repair is brought back and given new life.

And for most of us, there are parts of our own stories that can feel exactly like that – lost, broken, or wasted. Seasons we wish had gone differently, choices we wouldn’t make again or moments we quietly wonder if they permanently changed the course of our lives. We don’t always say it out loud, but sometimes we treat those chapters like they disqualify us from moving forward fully.

You see, the world tends to reinforce that mindset as it often tells us our past defines us, that patterns are permanent, and that once something is broken, it’s always a little broken. And when we believe that, we carry it with us – into our confidence, our relationships, even the way we see ourselves in God’s eyes. It keeps us looking backward instead of living forward.

But God’s way is different. His redemption, not only forgives, but actually restores us to the original intention He had when He made us. We are made new as people who are loved, valuable, and free from old patterns. Our hearts and minds are renewed. We’re able to live fully in purpose, reflecting God’s character and creativity and are able to finally live as the people He designed us to be.

So what does that actually look like in real life?

  • Maybe it’s finally having the courage to apologize to someone you hurt years ago – not because you owe them closure, but because you’ve been restored and can now act in love instead of shame.

  • Maybe it’s stepping into a new opportunity at work or in your relationships even though past failures made you hesitant. Redemption says: those failures don’t define your ability to thrive today.

  • Maybe it’s forgiving yourself for a season of life you consider wasted – the nights you felt overwhelmed, the mistakes you made with people you love, the “I shouldn’t have” moments. God can take all of that and turn it into wisdom, empathy, and strength for the next chapter.

  • Maybe it’s starting a new habit or rhythm that seems impossible, because God is making the old patterns that once held you back powerless in your life.

These moments may feel small, but they’re real-life evidence of redemption in motion. It’s not theoretical – it’s practical and every time we let go of old shame, step forward in faith, or act from a renewed heart, we’re living the truth that God doesn’t just forgive; He restores.

Colossians 1:13–14 tells us “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” This verse reminds us that redemption is not just an idea – it’s a real, active rescue. God has brought us out of what trapped us and into a new life full of purpose, hope, and freedom.

So this week, let’s gently invite God into the places we’ve written off and into the memories, seasons, or decisions we’ve quietly labeled as “wasted.” Let’s affirm to ourselves – “I am redeemed, made new, and my story is being restored by God” whenever old shame or regret tries to creep back in.

Redemption means God doesn’t just redeem us – He redeems our story. So as we head into this week, let’s remember: we are not defined by old patterns or past seasons. We are redeemed. We are being made new. And our story is still unfolding, with God restoring every part.

I’d really love to hear from you in the comments section below on which part of today’s lesson hits home for you. And for a deeper reflection – What part of your past have you quietly labeled as “wasted,” and how might God be inviting you to see it as redeemed?
