YOU ARE FREE AND SECURE IN CHRIST

Living Without Fear or Anxiety by Trusting God Fully

Have you ever had one of those moments where you think, “Why do I keep struggling with the same things?” Maybe you love God, you’ve accepted Jesus, and you truly want to live differently – but fear still creeps in, old habits still show up, and sometimes guilt or worry feels louder than peace.

It can feel confusing, even discouraging, like freedom is something you should have but don’t fully experience yet. The good news is that nothing is wrong with you – this is part of the journey. Today, we’re going to gently unpack what it really means to be free and secure in Christ, what that looks like in everyday life, and how we can start walking in that freedom together, one small step at a time.

Let’s start with what does it actually mean to be free and secure in Christ? We’re not talking about surface-level calm or feeling peaceful sometimes. We’re talking about a deep, real freedom: free from sin’s power, free from shame and condemnation, free from fear, and fully secure in God’s hands. And the best part? You don’t have to be perfect or “get it right” to start experiencing this freedom – it’s something Jesus invites you into, step by step.

So what does it mean to be free from sin’s power? It doesn’t mean you’ll never struggle or make mistakes – freedom in Christ often begins as a choice, not a feeling. Many of us carry habits, fears, or patterns that quietly pull us away from God. Anger, worry, pride, envy, or selfishness can show up in our day, and even when we want to do the right thing, it can feel like we repeat the same mistakes. That’s what the Bible describes as being “spiritually bound” – when our reactions, habits, and fears seem to guide us more than God does.

But here’s the hope: Jesus offers freedom from that power. We don’t have to stay stuck in old cycles. We begin experiencing this freedom by leaning on Him, asking for strength, turning to His truth, and surrendering what we cannot control. You see, freedom doesn’t come from trying harder on our own; it grows as we let Jesus gently break the chains, one step at a time.

And what about being free from condemnation? That quiet, heavy voice that whispers, “You failed… you’re not enough… God must be disappointed.” In Christ, that voice loses its authority. Our sins are forgiven, our record is cleared, and our standing with God is secure. We are fully loved and fully accepted – not because of what we do, but because of what Jesus has already done.

But even with this truth, we can still feel trapped sometimes as fear, anxiety, and the urge to control can creep back in. The world tells us security comes from holding everything together, but that kind of security is fragile. Real freedom grows when we lean on God daily, choosing trust over fear and surrender over striving.

And security in Christ means our safety doesn’t depend on everything going right – it comes from God being steady and unshakable. So even when life feels uncertain, we are still held.

Here are simple ways this freedom and security can show up in everyday life:

  • Pausing to pray instead of reacting in fear or frustration.
  • Giving a worry to God instead of carrying it alone.
  • Speaking God’s truth when guilt or fear tries to rise.
  • Choosing trust in God when you feel the urge to control everything.

Remember, you may not feel fully free yet – and that’s okay. What matters is beginning today, one choice, one surrender, and one small step of trust at a time.

So this week, take one bold step toward living free and secure in Christ. Choose one of these and really commit to it:

  • Pause and pray whenever fear, worry, or frustration rises and let God take it from you instead of trying to handle it alone.
  • Speak a truth from Scripture aloud when condemnation or anxiety creeps in to remind yourself who you are in Christ.
  • Hand over a worry or decision you’ve been carrying to God – trust Him to guide it instead of trying to control it yourself.
  • Replace guilt with gratitude – in a moment where shame usually shows up, name one thing God has done for you today.

Let’s step into this truth together: that we are free from sin’s control, free from condemnation, free from fear, and in Christ, we are fully and forever secure.

Repeating scripture when your mind sinks into negativity is such a great strategy to remember the truth God says about who you are. Love it!

Yes Nesta. That's one of the numerous ways to keep God front and center of our struggles. It's so important to have a plan for that. Thank you for commenting on this post.
